Patient-Centered Virtual Care

Virtual Care technologies foster connections between Veterans, their VA care teams, and the VA healthcare system, supporting VA’s mission to provide Veteran-Centered Care. Virtual Care connects with Veterans where they are, extending beyond the hospital and clinic to integrate into their life context. Virtual Care technologies (e.g., online patient portal, mobile applications, synchronous video telehealth, asynchronous remote monitoring tools), when implemented effectively, can improve access, enhance information sharing, and promote continuous, collaborative, and coordinated care aligned with Veteran preferences.
Our research foci in this area include:
- Evaluating the effectiveness of virtual care, including the extent to which care is effective, equitable, and Veteran-centered.
- Designing strategies to improve the adoption and integration of virtual care technologies within VA.
- Supporting integration of Virtual Care technologies into VA care and VA clinical teams through innovative practice changes.
