Job Announcement: Full-Time Research Project Manager for a Study of Nonpharmacologic Interventions for Chronic Pain – Bedford, MA

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our dynamic research team at the Center for Healthcare Organization and Implementation Research (CHOIR), located at the VA Bedford Healthcare System in Bedford, Massachusetts. This position is for a full-time research project manager position for an NIH-funded clinical trial comparing multiple interventions for chronic pain. The study’s overarching goal is to implement and test a multidisciplinary team-based whole person health intervention for patients with chronic pain, compared to a group education intervention or VA’s stepped care model for chronic pain. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills are required for developing and maintaining good relationships with study clinicians and participants.

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Project management and administrative tasks including obtaining IRB and other regulatory approvals required to begin and continue study activities; scheduling meetings and taking meeting minutes; monitoring project timelines; and maintaining essential research documentation
  • Coordinate daily study operations and serve as the primary contact for the study
  • Collaborate closely with other study investigators, personnel, and clinicians
  • Work closely with study investigators to develop and modify study protocols
  • Overseeing systems for tracking and monitoring study progress to ensure adherence to timelines, scopes of practice, and applicable regulations
  • Oversee and conduct study recruitment activities including conducting study eligibility screenings, obtaining informed consent, and scheduling all study visits and procedures
  • Maintain good rapport with study participants and clinicians
  • Assist with preparation of progress reports for funding agencies
  • Conducting data collection and management activities including conducting structured assessments
  • Support data analysis and dissemination activities

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of human subjects’ research and study management experience required.
  • BA degree in health science or related field required; masters’ degree preferred.
  • Experience in coordinating research studies
  • Excellent interpersonal, written/oral communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities to achieve desired goals
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision, as well as collaborate with a team
